Early Years had so much fun making shadow shapes this morning in the sunny playground. Can you guess who the shadows belong to?

Our May Procession 12th May 2025

The children began their procession in the main hall and walked around the playground over to the Prayer Garden where every child chose the 'perfect place' to lay their flower. Children from each class then said a Hail Mary as we took part in a decade of the Rosary. The sun shone and the children showed respect and joy in the giving of flowers to Mary during her special month. At the end of the day the flowers were taken in to the main school hall where they were arranged around another statue of Mary for all to see during the rain and shine. A beautiful day for beautiful Mary.

Early years had a worming week 2nd May 2025

The children went looking for worms everywhere. They found all different sized ones under some woodchip! They brought them back to class and made a 'Worm home' for them using a big plastic tub and layers of leaves, mud and twigs. They found out so many facts about worms too! Did you know that some worms can grow parts of their body again and worms cannot see- they feel vibrations in the ground! We are so excited to come back to school next week and begin some Worm Art!

Early Years have been very busy exploring wet and dry sand. They have done beautiful finger paintings for Earth day and thought about what makes a Healthy food plate. We have welcomed new friends into our Early Years and had so much fun on the climbing apparatus and bikes. We are so excited about our new English topic book 'Yucky Worms' and learning our number bonds in Maths.

We did laps around the playground and we were cheered on by our friends in the other classes. We were raising money to help families and communities to fight poverty, to provide emergency shelter and access to clean water.

We had a wonderful day at a Community event at La Retraite RC school. The year 12 students organised many activities and supported us during the different activities. We had an Easter egg hunt, a nature trail and sports activities.

During National Storytelling week the KS1 team performed the story of Little Red Riding Hood .We dressed up as the characters and acted out the story for the children. The children enjoyed our performance and at the end the children asked questions and they told us what parts of the story they liked the best .

We have had the best day learning all about Chinese new year. We made delicious noodles, snake hats and fans. We did a ribbon and fan dance in our class too! The best part was watching each other trying to use the chopsticks!!! It was so funny !

In Geography we have been learning about which continent China is located in. We made comparisons between Beijing and London. We have looked at Chinese culture. We tried different kinds of Chinese food. We received red envelopes for Chinese New Year and we had a special visitor all the way from China. She spoke to us in Mandarin and taught us how to use chopsticks. The children said it was the best day ever!

We went to the National Army Museum. We learnt about why we wear poppies. We also looked at the lives of different people in WW1.We had to carry out some research and present it to the rest of the group.

We have been learning about the artist Henri Rousseau because he liked to create pictures of wild animals. We used collage materials to re-create his famous picture 'Tiger in a tropical storm'. We learned how to show 'movement' in our artwork too by attaching things that would move if you blew on them!

We had so much fun retelling our English story- The Tiger Who Came to Tea. We dressed up and acted out every scene from when the tiger came to the house, drank all the tea in the pot, all the water in the tap and all the food in the cupboard! We ended our story telling with some fabulous face painting of the story characters.

Yesterday, we had a very exciting trip to Kew Gardens. We first visited the Palm House and drew some Exotic plants! We then had a workshop about seeds and on how to be scientists using microscopes and magnifying glasses. We also learnt to use techniques to show the detail in plants. “We did get soaked in the rain a little bit but we very much enjoyed our day’ knowing the plants would be happy to have the rain”.

I set the children a challenge to 'get water from the water tray to the plants' using the different pipes, blocks and materials. A few children began the task by exploring the various lengths and shapes of the tubes and pipes available. They were soon joined by all their friends who wanted to help with this huge challenge. Before long they had discussed and came up with a plan to use the chairs to balance the pipes, however they kept on separating in the middle. The only solution (shouted out by one of the children) was " we can all hold the pipes together!".... They did exactly that and.... Success!! The water flowed into the thirsty plants because the children worked together! We all agree- Teamwork makes the dream work

The children were making predictions about which liquids would slow down the oxidation process using apples. We investigated our fingerprints by printing them on a balloon and then blowing up the ballon. This made our fingerprints huge and we could see how unique our fingerprints are

Giant bubbles have taken over Early Years! We have had the most fun making huge bubbles today!! We learned new things too... Did you know that washing up liquid and water do not like each other? Well, all you have to do is add something called glycerine and just like a magnet, it helps the water and washing up liquid to mix!
