Organisation of classes

The Nursery

The Nursery can have up to 39 Full Time Equivalent children in Nursery when full. Full time places are allocated with Dern Codes in the first instance and top-up can be used if full time places are available and paid for a term in advance.

There are two parallel classes in the Reception year. Each class has a teacher and teaching assistant. The standard number for admissions is 60 per year group, divided into classes of up to 30 pupils.

Year 1 / Year 2

There are two Year 1 classes and two Year 2 classes. Children in Year 1 and 2 are taught by a class teacher, with additional support from full time Teaching Assistants.

Teaching assistants provides support children for whom English is an additional language.  Teaching assistants also lead small group maths sessions, phonics groups and english support groups.

School meals

All children from Reception to Year 2 are provided with a free school lunch as part of the ‘Universal Infant Free School Meals’ initiative which offers a choice of cooked meals including a vegetarian option. Children are encouraged to lead a healthy lifestyle as outlined in our Healthy Food Policy.

Daily fruit & milk

Fruit is provided on a daily basis for all children free of charge. We also encourage children to bring a bottle of water to drink throughout the day. Milk is available for all children at lunchtimes.
